We’re Counting the Days
Back to overview
It’s the first Sunday in May. I’m standing among other runners in a yellow short-sleeved shirt. A lady in a wheelchair is right next to me. We count down the last few seconds together, literally scream the numbers out loud for the world to hear. My heart is pounding. Then it starts. We all scuttle forward carefully at first, but then the stream of runners sweeps us away. We’re running for a good cause. We’re running to find a cure for spinal cord injuries. We’re running for the lady in a wheelchair next to me, for her hope to be able to stand up and walk again someday.
The Wings for Life World Run is our largest fundraising event. That’s what makes it so special.
One World, One Time
The Wings for Life World Run takes place worldwide simultaneously (11am UTC). While runners in Vienna start at 1pm, their counterparts in New York start at 7am. The World Runners in Tokyo set off at 8pm.
Catch Me If You Can!
This run has no finish line, but a so-called catcher car that leaves 30 minutes after the starting signal. It starts off slowly and increases its speed gradually. Your race is over as soon as it overtakes you.
It doesn’t matter whether you’re a professional, a hobby runner, or a complete beginner. You’re supporting an excellent cause, even if you merely walk along with the Wings for Life World Run. The participation fee of each individual is a donation that helps cure spinal cord injuries.
The Wings for Life World Run makes things easy for you. If you aren’t able to attend one of the flagship events with thousands of participants, you can participate via an app - wherever you may be. Instead of a real car, a virtual catcher car follows your progress. This allows you to run alone while still being part of the greater cause.
100% = 100%
Not a single cent of your donation is used for advertising, administration, or equipment. The cost of the entire event is borne by Red Bull, meaning that 100% of your donation - and thus every single Dollar - is invested in spinal cord research.
Fancy joining us? We think you do :-) You can register for the Wings for Life World Run right here. We’d like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping us make spinal cord injuries curable.
