The Cord Club 2014 - second year success

Back to overview

Last night, we hosted our annual UK fundraising party - The Cord Club – at the magnificent Great Halls on Stoney Street, London. The evening was packed full of show-stopping entertainment and fine dining courtesy of Michelin star chef, Michael Caines. Our ambassadors David Coulthard and Formula One development driver Susie Wolff, hosted the event and entertained a crowd of high society guests who attended with one aim – to raise money for spinal cord research.

Celebrities from across the worlds of sport, fashion and society filled the venue to show their support for Wings for Life, and together guests raised 170,000 Euros for spinal cord research. Jodie Kidd, a passionate supporter of the charity, arrived straight from the glitz and glamour of London Fashion Week to grace the red carpet. She was joined by Yasmin Le Bon, Eddie Jordan, Suzi Perry,The Earl of Shaftesbury and many others.

Entertainment was abundant in the form of light performers and jugglers, Feeding the Fish, who opened the evening to an eager crowd. An inspired menu followed in the form of three superb courses by the talented Michael Caines MBE, who is one of Britain‘s most esteemed chefs and is currently Executive Chef at the renowned Gidleigh Park. Last but not least was entertainment from the UK’s No.1 beat box act, Duke. The extraordinary band performed an array of covers with only three voices, one guitar and absolutely no backing tracks whatsoever.

To conclude the evening was the much-anticipated Cord Club live auction, which included a number of incredible lots such as a private training session with British Lion and Welsh international rugby star George North, a premium package for two at the Monaco Grand Prix and a once in a life time holiday to Las Vegas. For those wishing to be a little more private about their bidding was the Cord Club silent auction, which included a trip to Barcelona, a tour of the Red Bull racing factory and behind the scenes exclusive access to Britain’s Got Talent.

David Coulthard said: “I’m honoured to be an ambassador for Wings for Life and to be the co-host of The Cord Club alongside Susie Wolff for the second year running. The importance of finding a cure for spinal cord injury shouldn’t be overlooked, especially when an injury could happen to anyone of us, anytime.”

Nikki Wilson, Head of Wings for Life UK said: “The amount of support we’ve had from our ambassadors and friends of Wings for Life has been absolutely phenomenal, and I’d like to thank everyone who helped to make the event such a huge success. I am thrilled that we have raised so much money to fund our ground-breaking research.”

We would like to thank our fantastic guests, hosts, sponsors and everyone who supported us to make it such a success!
