20 simple ideas on how to collect donations to support spinal cord research.
1. THE CLASSIC
Forego birthday or wedding presents in favour of money for a cause that is close to your heart.
2. ORGANISE A THEME PARTY
Everyone who attends in fancy dress pays a small entrance fee, while visitors without costumes pay double. All you need is chilled drinks, snacks, and excellent music.
3. GIVE A LECTURE
Talk about your last journey, your vegetarian diet plan, or your newest fitness programme. There are no limits in terms of speeches in front of a paying audience.
Why not help both students and researchers?
5. MONETISE YOUR TALENT
It doesn’t really matter whether you are an excellent dancer, painter, or make-up artist. Monetise your talent among your friends and acquaintances.
6. ORGANISE A RAFFLE
All you need to do is find a few sponsors willing to provide prizes. Then sell tickets at your event and look forward to happy winners and donations for research.
7. THE GOOD OLD DONATION BOX
Motivate your family, friends, acquaintances and colleagues to rummage through their pockets for spare change. Every coin counts!
8. THE PERFECT DINNER
Invite people round for dinner and ask your guests to donate money for spinal cord research.
9. GRAB THE MIC
Are you an excellent singer or musician? If yes, then share your talent with the public in a concert. Every sold ticket counts!
10. DO SOMETHING CRAZY
Turn up at work in your pyjamas, colour your hair an unusual shade, or go ice-skating in a bikini. Just don’t forget to find sponsors for your “moment of madness”.
11. BE SPORTY
Sell every kilometre you cover on your bike, on foot, or in the water.
12. WASH CARS, MOPEDS, OR BICYCLES
Everybody loves a clean vehicle. Gather sufficient cleaning supplies and start washing. By the way, we’re sure you’ll enjoy it more if you persuade a few friends to join you.
13. PUBLISH A COOKBOOK
A few good recipes and some nice photos - that’s all you need. The design and price is up to you!
14. AUCTION YOURSELF OFF
Mow the lawn, paint the fence, or clear the attic for whoever tables the highest bid. Your skills can be invaluable for spinal cord research.
15. EDUCATE CHILDREN
Why not teach a child how to play a musical instrument or speak a few words in a new language? We’re sure parents would be willing to donate a few euros, dollars or pounds in exchange.
16. ORGANISE A RUBBER DUCK RACE
Before the race starts, you will need to sell rubber ducks to all eager participants. The first rubber duck to navigate a course in a river or brook earns its proud owner a small prize.
17. ORGANISE A FLEA MARKET
Put your unwanted books, toys, clothing and other items up for sale. Then negotiate the best price for a good cause.
19. CREATE A SPECIAL SCHOOL PROJECT
Are you still a pupil or student? Or do you have children? Creating a Wings for Life project promotes awareness and is a perfect opportunity to raise funds from sponsors and friends.
18. ORGANISE A HIKE
Such a project requires no more than a hiking route and motivation. Invite friends, family, and acquaintances to join your tour and watch the “start fees” roll in.
20. GROW A BEARD
Did you know that every centimetre of facial hair can be monetised? Your aunt would certainly be happy to pay for the fifth centimetre, right? You might even manage to sell the shave at the end.
TIP: Try raising as much awareness as possible in social networks, via email or through flyers. The more enthusiastic you are, the more friends, family members, colleagues, acquaintances, and sponsors will be willing to contribute.
