Cotswold Outdoor give their 5p-bag donations to us

Back to overview

In October 2015 it become law for all large shops in England to charge 5p for all single-use plastic carrier bags. The law came in even earlier in Wales and Scotland. The purpose of the scheme is to reduce the use of single-use plastic carrier bags, and the litter associated with them, by encouraging people to re-use bags.

As part of the scheme it was also agreed that for every single-use bag sold, the 5p charge could be donated to a good cause chosen by the company. The first 6 months of the UK project saw at least £29.2million donated to good causes and there was a very substantial fall in the number of single-use carrier bags used.

Through the scheme, Cotswold Outdoor have generated a fantastic amount of funds 100% of which will go directly to spinal cord research.

"Cotswold Outdoor is proud to continue supporting the amazing work of the inspiring people at Wings for Life. We hope that one day spinal cord injury will not be a barrier to anybody enjoying the simple pleasure of exploring the outdoors and being able to live life to the full", said Graeme Richardson, Retail Analyst at Cotswold Outdoor.
