The story behind
Dear friends & followers,
Wings for Life's aim is to find a cure for spinal cord injury. Promoting advancement in spinal cord research is important to me and I would appreciate your help in achieving my fundraising goal.
We can all benefit from the progress made in research because spinal cord injury can happen to any one of us. The main causes are accidents in daily life, such as road accidents or falls.
As most of you are aware, my Father, cycling enthusiast and co-developer of the Merlin Sportives, Phil Edwards, has recently had a string of operations on his back, one of which was to make his body 'safe' due to a spinal cord injury caused by crumbling disks. He is recovering however the spinal injury has caused his walking to be impaired, a lot of pain and (the worst part for Phil) makes cycling on his road bikes difficult. He has had to make a lot of changes in his life which has been hard, those of you who know him are well aware of his stubbornness and determination.
With this campaign and your support I want to raise funds to improve the quality of life of people with spinal cord injuries and bring about their recovery. While I may not be directly helping my father, I want to aid Wing for Life in their research to help individuals and families who are affected by spinal injury.
I plan to ride one of my Fathers favourite routes in September 2015, a route used in the annual Merlin Ride. It Is approximately 100 miles around Carmarthenshire, climbing the Black Mountain. For me this will be a challenge having not been on my bike in about a year! In the build up I will be training to accomplish this challenging route! So wish me luck!
This is going to be a long ride so if anyone wants to join me on the journey to support Phil, whether it be during training, offering advice or joining me on the day, please get in touch!
So wish me luck! 100% of your donation goes directly to spinal cord research, since the foundation administrative costs are kindly sponsored by Red Bull.
Please join me in supporting this great organisation by making a donation today.
