Year review 2013

Back to overview

Dear Wings for Life friends & supporters,

Personally, I look back on 2013 with mixed emotions. On the one hand, it was our best year so far, both in terms of research and fundraising. On the other hand, my family and me had a sad anniversary as our son Hannes sustained his spinal cord injury ten years ago.

Fortunately, we have made many strides forward in regards to research. In total, we funded 28 research projects in 2013, which marks a new record. Even though, most of them are still at an early stage, I’m very confident that we will reach our goal of finding a cure for all people affected, as the results are very positive.
This progress is thanks to our amazing and loyal supporters around the world. It’s incredible to see so many people organising their own events or fundraising projects. To name one example: Paul Stewart from the United Kingdom raised nearly half a million Euros for spinal cord research with his Iron Spine Challenge. Another example is Christopher Perry, who cycled 1.900 km to raise awareness and donations for Wings for Life.

Also for 2014, many of you have already announced their support. In addition, we pin high hopes on our latest project, the Wings for Life World Run. The more people take part, the more research projects can be funded in the end. Besides, the financial boost will hopefully allow us to give new impulses to the entire field. So, please mobilize your friends, family and colleagues to run for those who can’t.

On this note, thank you very much for your trust and your amazing support. We wish you and your families a Happy Christmas and a healthy New Year.

Yours sincerely,
Heinz Kinigadner
