Professor Jan Schwab receives Apple Award
Back to overview
An award is a recognition that a person is given for doing something well. Receiving one proves that other peers from the field highly value the work of its recipient. We are immensely proud to announce that Professor Jan Schwab, founding member and scientific director of the Wings for Life Spinal Cord Research Foundation, received ASIA’s 2020 Apple award.
The American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) has the mission to promote and establish standards for health care, education and research, playing a central role for SCI patients worldwide. By delivering this award, ASIA members recognize that Professor Jan Schwab did an outstanding contribution to the field with his work titled “Outcome heterogeneity and bias in acute experimental spinal cord injury.”
This study has gathered data that represent several decades of research. Its main message is that scientists should embrace the importance of negative findings. Positive bias fundamentally “hides” most of the obtained results, while this “dark data” is in fact of outmost importance.
