Claire Danson

Back to overview

In 2019, Claire Danson's life changed forever. This is the story of an incredibly strong, young woman.

"I have always been incredibly active, taking part in every sport that I possibly could when growing up. As I transitioned into adulthood I found the sport of triathlon and was hooked. I represented Great Britain on numerous occasions and became European Champion in my age group for Triathlon in 2019. That same year I was aiming to gain my Professional Racing licence but unfortunately a collision with a tractor during a training ride resulted in me sustaining a spinal cord injury. This left me paralysed from the waist down and put an end to my triathlon career. It also completely turned my life upside down and left me feeling like I had lost my identity having gone from someone who was at the top of my sport to someone who could not even dress myself."

"Over time I have got back to really enjoying my life and am competing in paratriathlon. I feel privileged to be able to do this. Whilst I was in hospital I learned about Wings for Life and the incredible work that they do. What struck me the most is the hope that they give to those with a spinal cord injury and the belief and certainty that they will find a cure that will make such an impact on the lives of so many."

We are thrilled to announce that Claire Danson has joined us as Wings for Life Ambassador.
