The Cord Club Returns in Style
M Restaurant Victoria Street, London is a multifaceted award winning venue, leading the trend of London’s social scene. As the Winner of Best London Steak Restaurant 2017, we were incredibly proud to have invited guests to indulge their taste buds in an exclusive sensory experience, created exclusively for The Cord Club. The November event saw guests from the world of sports, business and entertainment dig deep to raise vital funds for spinal cord research.
Welcomed by founder of M, Martin Williams, and hosted by lead presenter of Formula One for Sky Sports, Simon Lazenby, guests took their seats for an exciting evening ahead.
Guest’s mouths watered as they enjoyed a five-course taster menu including some of the world’s most ethically sourced, sustainable ike-jime seafood and steaks selected from across the world. Dishes were complimented by wines discovered by sommeliers from six countries over the past decade.
An exciting highlight of the evening saw our friends from the world of Formula One answering questions sent in by the audience. Red Bull Racing Team Principal Christian Horner, Red Bull Racing driver Max Verstappen and Toro Rosso driver Pierre Gasly joined Simon on stage for a comical hour of questioning.
Supporters in the room, both loyal and new, next witnessed the recollecting story of Wings for Life friend, Steven Dowd. You could hear a pin drop in the room as Steven shared his physical and emotional journey of suffering a spinal cord injury whilst simply out riding his bike. “Spinal cord injury can happen to anyone at any time. In a heartbeat I went from a fit and heathy young chap riding to work... to a c3/4 incomplete tetraplegic with no movement or sensation below the neck. When you sustain such a devastating injury you don’t know what the future will hold. That is incredibly scary. I found I didn’t know how strong I was until strong was my only option.I was lucky enough to have been co-opted into a clinical trial funded by Wings for Life. I firmly believe it gave me the foundation and hope my family and I needed to be strong. To stand once more. To walk again. To get back on my bike.”
Following Steven’s inspiring words, guests contributed generously to the Live Auction, with the silent auction and a raffle running in the background. The auction consisted of prizes and experiences that money can’t (usually) buy and with thanks to the generosity in the room we were able to announce the grand total just before midnight.
As the evening drew to a close, we celebrated our achievements with an Espresso Martini…or two, accompanied by a Birthday song for Christian from his wife Geri.
A truly unbelievable sum of £180,000.00 was raised during the evening of which we are incredibly grateful for. We would like to take this opportunity to, once again, thank you all for your support in helping us find a cure.
