We support international cutting-edge research.
Wings for Life is devoted to the following areas

Cutting-edge medical research
The examination of fundamental approaches and mechanisms in traumatic spinal cord injuries
By providing targeted financial support, Wings for Life enables the implementation of important research projects focusing on curing paraplegia. Wings for Life also supports revolutionary compensatory treatments, which promise to significantly improve the quality of life of paraplegic patients.
To choose its research projects, Wings for Life benefits from the expertise of an advisory committee of international scientists and physicians. Together with well respected reviewers, they support the foundation by selecting the most promising projects that focus on relevant research.
Wings for Life has established a stringent, multi-stage selection process to ensure the best possible investment of every single donation.
Clinical studies

Clinical studies
The next Step of support
Clinical studies are carried out in order to secure the sustainability, effectiveness and safety of
new pharmaceuticals and medical interventions. A clinical study represents the last step before a
medication or treatment is officially approved and becomes a clinical standard worldwide.
The average clinical study takes eight years and is extremely costly in terms of labour and money.
Wings for Life has funded two clinical studies in 2011 in the field of rehabilitation.
Scientific communication

Scientific communication
The sharing of scientific communication is an important precondition for progress in research
Wings for Life also acts as a platform for knowledge transfer between individual institutions. The foundation organises international conferences, ensuring that global leaders in the field of spinal cord research can share their insights with one another.
Wings for Life regularly publishes expert articles in scientific journals in order to broadly disseminate information in specialist circles.
Prevention

Prevention
It is also necessary to set benchmarks in prevention
The chance of someone suffering a spinal cord injury is much higher than generally thought. Road traffic accidents, falls, sports and recreational accidents claim thousands of paraplegia victims each year. It is therefore essential that we also work on prevention as well as cure. Wings for Life supports the development of protection devices and methods.
