Ibuprofen therapy to improve recovery from chronic spinal cord lesion

Funded in: 2007, 2008, 2009

Back to overview

Ibuprofen is an inexpensive FDA-approved medication that is already widely used throughout the world. Recent studies conducted by this team proved that an ibuprofen treatment right after the spinal cord injury is leading to a stronger locomotor recovery in animal model. This proposal will try to elucidate if the Ibuprofen treatment could also be beneficial for older lesions (so called chronic lesions), since some observations would suggest that it is the case. If this hypothesis is true, Ibuprofen may be rapidly translated into clinical practice for many chronically spinal cord injury patients.
