The 2012 London Marathon

Back to overview

On Sunday 22nd April our fantastic team of runners raced along the streets of London for the 2012 Virgin London Marathon after months of training. Congratulations to Tom Causer, Dave Mackay, Sarah Grimwood and Matthew Tait who participated on behalf of Wings for Life - you have completed an amazing personal challenge!

About 37,500 amateur athletes, fun runners and elite sportsmen and women set off in bright sunshine for the 32nd London Marathon. We were thrilled to cheer all of our team over the finish line; Dave Mackay was at the front of the group and completed the race in a time of 3 hours 15 minutes. Kenya's Wilson Kipsang won the men's elite race with a time of 2:04:44 and Mary Keitany, also from Kenya, defended the women's title with a time of 2:18:37. The men's wheelchair race was won by Britain's David Weir, his sixth victory.

This was the first time Wings for Life have had runners take part in the London Marathon and the group have already raised over £6,000 for research to find a cure for spinal cord injury. Our team will take an exclusive tour of the Red Bull Racing factory in May as a post-event thank you for their hard work and dedication.
