That was The Clay Day 2017

Back to overview

With a warm welcome from the day’s hosts, Red Bull Racing Principal Christian Horner and Wings for Life Ambassador David Coulthard, guests gathered at the marvelous West Wycombe Estate. Here, guests were invited to enjoy a morning coffee whilst exploring the surroundings. After a team talk, teams took to their fleet of 4x4s for some off-road driving. At certain points around the estate were five clay pigeon shooting stands for the teams to compete at.

After visiting three stands across the estate, guests regrouped to break for traditional English elevenses next to the Cascades in the centre of the estate.

Two final stands were then taken on inclusive of a very special addition. Paul Bailey is a three time World and European Champion in the clay pigeon shooting disabled seated class. Guests were privileged enough to have Paul as the sixth member of their team at the Horseman’s ride stand, which helped to significantly up their points. Paul has now reached the Olympic final in trap shooting and we wait in anticipation to witness his achievements in the first official Paralympic World Cup this year.

After a competitive day of shooting, guests regrouped for the final time to enjoy a glass of champagne and a relaxed BBQ lunch.

Acoustic duo Brother from Another performed a number of popular hits and Wings for Life Ambassador Mark Pollock thanked guests for attending and shared the importance of the day. Unbroken by blindness at 22, Mark competed in ultra endurance races across deserts, mountains, and the polar ice caps including an epic 2 month expedition race to the South Pole. In July 2010 a tragic fall left him paralysed. Now Mark is living his own lessons, a pioneer exploring the frontiers of spinal cord injury recovery.

By the way: First place went to Team Red Bull UK (Andy Shaw, Paul Stewart, Mike Tindall, John Ford and Matthew Laurenson). Congratulations :-)

Over £115,000 was raised on the day, enough to fund one research project for a whole year! A huge thank you to everyone who joined us on the day and to all that supported the event including Volkswagen UK, The Hamper Guys and Musto as well as E J Churchill, Cavendish Events and the West Wycombe Estate.
