Mouth and Foot Painting Artist, Keith Jansz becomes a Wings for Life Friend

In 1995, Keith Jansz was involved in a car accident which left him paralysed from the waist down, causing him to lose the use of his hands and legs.

After six months in the National Spinal Injuries Centre at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Keith returned home and read a book on the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists.  Keith felt a real connection with the artists and this creative art form and was inspired to paint. He learnt the challenging art of painting using his mouth, and became a full Mouth and Foot Painting Artist Member in 2000.

Keith has now sold paintings and reproductions of his work worldwide, holding solo exhibitions in the UK and Italy as well as exhibiting in museums internationally including Shanghai, Madrid and Atlanta. The Professor of Perspective at the Royal Academy of Arts, Professor Ken Howard praised Keith’s work, “Keith’s work is full of light and colour.  Above all else it is full of joy.”

When talking about his painting, Keith says, ‘I love to feel my brush dance across the canvas and give back to me the sensation of movement which my body now lacks.’

Keith has been a strong supporter of Wings for Life, and amongst other things has given thought-provoking speeches at our events and took part in the Wings for Life World Run 2014, raising more than £2,300 for Wings for Life and spinal cord research. Keith’s paintings have also been displayed at our annual fundraising event, The Cord Club and auctioned to raise funds.

We welcome Keith to the Wings for Life family.
